The Oakham Handyman Limited ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use our website or contact us about a job, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to visitors of theoakhamhandyman.co.uk and to anyone who contacts us by phone, email or in person about a quote or job.

02What we collect
When you request a quote or get in touch, we typically collect:
- Contact details — name, phone number, email address.
- Job details — the type of work, a description of what you'd like done, and your property address and postcode, so we can quote accurately and travel to the right place.
- Communication preferences — whether you've agreed to receive marketing or non-marketing text messages and emails from us.
- Correspondence — records of calls, emails, texts and messages between us, including quotes and invoices.
- Technical data — standard website analytics such as pages visited and device/browser type, and, where enabled, advertising identifiers from tools like Meta (Facebook) Pixel used to measure the effectiveness of our ads. See Cookies & tracking below.
We don't collect payment card details directly — any online or card payments are handled by a third-party payment provider under their own security standards.
03How we use it
We use your information to:
- Respond to enquiries and prepare quotes;
- Arrange, carry out and invoice for work you've asked us to do;
- Send job-related updates (for example, confirming a visit time) by phone, text or email;
- Send marketing updates or offers, but only where you've opted in — you can opt out at any time (see Your rights below);
- Keep basic financial and job records as required by UK tax law;
- Understand how our website and ads are performing, in aggregate and anonymised where possible.
04Our legal basis for using it
Under UK GDPR, we rely on:
- Contract — to quote for and carry out work you've asked us to do;
- Legitimate interests — to run and improve our business, keep basic records, and use non-marketing service messages (for example appointment reminders);
- Consent — for marketing text messages, marketing emails, and non-essential cookies/tracking, which you can withdraw at any time;
- Legal obligation — for tax and accounting records.
05Text messages & email marketing
If you've ticked a consent box on our enquiry form, we may send you non-marketing texts (for example, about an offer or booking) and/or marketing texts and emails about our services. Message frequency varies and standard message/data rates may apply. You can opt out of marketing texts at any time by replying STOP, and of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any email — or by simply telling us. Opting out of marketing won't affect job-related messages about work you've booked.
06Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal data. We share it only where necessary with:
- GoHighLevel — the customer relationship management (CRM) platform we use to store enquiries, quotes and communications;
- Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google — where you've consented to tracking, to measure and improve our advertising;
- Subcontractors or suppliers — only where needed to deliver a specific job, and only with the details required for that purpose;
- Professional advisers or authorities — such as our accountant, or where we're required to by law.
Any third party handling your data on our behalf is required to keep it secure and use it only for the purpose we've asked.
07Cookies & tracking
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies (such as the Meta Pixel) to remember basic preferences, understand how the site is used, and measure the performance of our advertising. Where these aren't strictly necessary for the site to function, we'll only use them with your consent, and you can manage or withdraw that consent through your browser settings at any time.
08How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and job data for as long as needed to complete the work and deal with any follow-up (such as a guarantee claim), and financial records for at least six years to meet HMRC requirements. If your enquiry doesn't turn into a job, we'll keep your details for a reasonable period in case you get back in touch, and delete them sooner on request.
09Keeping your data safe
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal data against loss, misuse or unauthorised access — including using reputable, secure third-party platforms to store and process it rather than unsecured spreadsheets or paper files.
10Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it (access);
- Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data (rectification);
- Ask us to delete your data, where we don't have a legal reason to keep it (erasure);
- Ask us to restrict or stop processing your data in certain circumstances;
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for marketing;
- Ask for your data in a portable format, where technically feasible;
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we're relying on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details above. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator.
11Children
Our services and website are aimed at adults arranging trade work on a property. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example as our services or the law change. The "last updated" date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. We'd encourage you to check back occasionally.
